As our heroes follow the path across the island, Iris is distracted by a meadow full of beautiful flowers. As Ash and Cilan wait for Iris to decorate her hair with the blossoms, they spot a Dunsparce—a Pokémon known for being very cautious and hard to find—and Ash decides he has to catch it! Dunsparce responds with a Screech that knocks Iris’s flowers to the ground, where Ash accidentally crushes them. Trying to get away from the terrible noise, Axew bumps into Pikachu, giving the shy Dunsparce a chance to escape.Ash blames Iris and Axew for the missed opportunity, and things turn a little chilly between them. When Ash finds a fruit tree and tries to make peace with Iris by sharing his discovery, he accidentally gives her a very bitter piece of fruit. She thinks he did it on purpose, and a real fight breaks out between them! After some heated words, she declares that she’s not going to travel with Ash anymore, and storms off...although, since there’s only a single path across the island, they’re still traveling in fairly close quarters.That night, Ash and Cilan make camp, and Iris decides to sleep in a tree a bit farther away. In 1997 the Pokémon anime made a huge splash in the western market with the introduction of its iconic duo, Ash Ketchum and Pikachu. For over 20 years, these two have traveled from region to region on a journey to become Pokémon masters. While the franchise is an unrivaled success, long-term fans have started to feel tired of its same old formula. Fans have begun to look towards Ash himself as needing a huge revamp. The character has been Pokémon's main protagonist for decades and has gone through very little change in the process. Many think updating Ash could be the key to revitalizing Pokémon's very essence. 10 It's Time For Ash To Age Up Fans have followed the Pokémon anime for well over two decades. For the anime's entire existence, Ash Ketchum has led the show as its main character. Despite over 20 years passing and starting the series at 10 years old, Ash Ketchum has remained 10 for the anime's entire duration. Fans have turned this fact into a meme as a way to condemn the absurdity of this anime logic. It simply makes no sense for a boy to have done as many things Ash has done while still staying the exact same age. 9 He's Not Actually A Strong Trainer For much of Ash's journey as a Pokémon trainer, he was never able to attain the title of Pokémon League Champion. Of course, this all changed in a semi-recent series where Ash became the Champion of the Alolan League. But for the most part, Ash has consistently proven that despite having the heart and drive, he lacks the skills to become a Pokémon master. While fans can respect his dedication, it can be a bit frustrating to see the same character lose time and time again. 8 Ash Has Only Won A Single Region With over 20 years of storytelling in the Pokémon anime, Ash has participated in more than a handful of Pokémon League championships. Despite how often he's come close, Ash has only ever won a single title. After decades of failing to stack up, Ash finally achieved victory in the Alola region and earned himself a championship. While fans were ecstatic about the development in this long-running anime, it still doesn't do much to change all those past failures. Despite coming on top once, Ash has demonstrated the clear lack of skill necessary to be the best. 7 He Constantly Leaves His Pokémon Behind Every once in a while, the Pokémon anime changes and Ash has to leave his region to adventure forth to a new one. This can always be a difficult moment for fans as Ash says goodbye to teammates and friends he built along a great journey. But while there's always a great reason for his companions to stay behind, it's a lot harder to justify why he never brings Pokémon with him. Every region begins with Ash and Pikachu starting from scratch, which can be bothersome to fans who
