The 5520 not online includes built-in support for 802.11n with backwards compatibility for older standards, but it includes HP's ePrint technology, which allows printing from practically any web-connected device. Hi, so my HP Photosmart 5520 has been working fine for ages. Then all of a sudden a while back, it wouldn't Scan to Computer. Well that was fine because Scan to Email still worked, so I just did that. Then a few days my toddler randomly turned off the printer right in the middle of scanning a document. And ever since then I haven't been able to scan. The computer connects to the internet absolutely fine, but when it gets to the actual scanning bit, it says 'unable to scan' or something like that, and basically that's it. If I retry, it doesn't work. If I turn it off and on and reset the wireless connection etc, it doesn't work. I just reinstalled the printer and the scan still doesn't work. Interestingly, when I double-click on 'HP Scan' on my computer, it says 'HP 5520 not found'!! But if I click on HP Print, it's all connected and fine. I've tried using the troubleshooting features that come with the software, but it tells me to click on this and that which actually don't exist on my operating system. E.g., telling me to click on Windows Diagnostic Scan, well it doesn't exist. And telling me to double-click on the printer icon and then 'Manage Scan to Computer'. Well, 'Manage Scan to Computer' is nowhere to be found. This printer was given to me by someone else, so I don't have the original software disk. I am bummed out because I have to send important documents to my bank, and it looks like I'll have to physically drop it off since our scanner is on strike. Can someone tell me how to sort this out?

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve black not printing on your Photosmart 5520. If the standard troubleshooting did not resolve black not printing I would suggest removing the black cartridge. Turn it over and examine the area around the ink port. There are four orange plastic spots, left over from the protective cap. Make sure these are flush with the cartridge body, if not carefully trim them flush. If the plastic nubs protrude they can prevent the cartridge from seating properly. Before replacing the cartridge in the printer dribble a few (maybe four) drops of hot water into the ink port in the printer and two drops into the ink port on the cartridge then snap the cartridge back in position. It may also help to manually clean the printhead as described in the post here. I have also seen cases where leaving the printer overnight after the cleaning cycles allows black to recover. If none of the above restores black printing your printer will likely require repair or replacement.In a pinch you can print by selecting photo paper as the media type. This will force the printer to use color even for black text. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you with your concern,Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.Remove all the ink cartridges and then perform a Hard reset on the printer.* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.* Remove USB cable, if present.* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.* Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test document and check if it works.Next thing, I would suggest here is to check for the latest firmware update, If available for your printer, using this link.Now let’s try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option.
