This article covers the steps that are needed to configure your signing machine to use DigiCert KeyLocker with JarSigner.Before you begin:Ensure that you have generated your KeyLocker API key and client certificate (see: KeyLocker Configuration for Windows).Log in to your DigiCert ONE account to view and copy the keypair alias for your code signing certificate.Designate a signer for your certificate in DigiCert ONE (see: Understanding Signer Privileges in KeyLocker: Ensuring Proper Assignment for Code Signing for more information).Download a copy of your code signing certificate from your DigiCert ONE account. This file is referenced in the SignTool command.Install the Java Development Kit (JDK). This can be downloaded here. Set your Environment Variables:1. Locate Environment Variables via the Start Menu.2. The System Properties window will open. Click on the Environmental Variables button.3. Highlight the Path variable and click Edit.4. Click on New and enter the directory into which DigiCert KeyLocker Tools was installed. Note: The default directory is C:\Program Files\DigiCert\DigiCert KeyLocker Tools\.5. Click on New and enter the directory which contains the file jarsigner.exe.6. Click OK to save the new paths and return to the Environment Variables window.7. Create a new variable by clicking on New.8. Enter the following:Variable name: SM_HOSTVariable value: This variable specifies the URL which the signing machine uses to connect to KeyLocker.Click OK to create the new variable.9. Create a second new variable and enter the following:Variable name: SM_CLIENT_CERT_FILEVariable value: C:\clientcertpath\Certificate_pkcs12.p12Note: This is the location of the client certificate which you downloaded from your DigiCert ONE account. This certificate is used to authenticate with KeyLocker.Click OK to create the new variable.10. Create a third variable and enter the following:Variable name: SM_API_KEYVariable value: Paste your API Key string into this field.11. Create a fourth variable and enter the following:Variable name: SM_CLIENT_CERT_PASSWORDVariable value: Paste your client certificate password into this field.12. Click OK in the Environment Variables window and again in the System Properties window to save the new variables. Synchronize and test your certificate configuration:1. Synchronize your certificate using the following command: smctl windows certsync --keypair-alias=You should receive the following response: Syncing certificate for alias: , ID: and SHA1 Fingerprint: 2. An efficient way to open CA KeyStores (TrustStores) of the JREs on the current system is to use Menu File > Open > Open JRE CA KeyStore. There you have a list of the CA Truststores discovered on your system. The discovery of the JREs is done by compiling a list of paths in the following way:The Java property ${java.home} of the JRE CERTivity started with;The system environment variables JAVA_HOME and JRE_HOME;For Windows platforms searching the installed Java JDKs and JREs in the Windows registry;For Unix and Mac we are looking for traditional Java installation directories such as /usr/java for Unix, /usr/lib/jvm for Linux (Debian, RedHat) and for Mac /Library/Java/Home/, /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/. Various patterns are then used.You can select a KeyStore from the TrustStore list discovered by CERTivity on your system, or you can select another one by using Menu File > Open > Open JRE CA KeyStore > Other... menu item. In this menu item you have to select the JDK's or JRE's home path, and CERTivity will open the Truststore for you. This new selected Truststore will be added to the menu list, so you will not have to make the selection steps again next time. The maximum list size of JREs CA Keystore can be set in the Tools > Options menu.Before opening the selected JRE CA KeyStore CERTivity will ask for its password. The password depends on the JRE distribution, but generally it has a well known default - changeit.

It’s tempting to fill it out (and I probably would a little in class, by doubling the bass occasionally, and doubling the thirds of the tune in the left hand where possible). On the other hand, part of the appeal of the piece is its simplicity. I kept changing my mind about whether the first tune would sound better an octave lower or not. I think you could probably experiment with playing the first half an octave lower, and the second half an octave higher.The cool and restrained tango, for a changeIt was also tempting to cover the piece with Grainger-esque articulations and dynamics to try and mimic the touch of the guitar, but thought it might look a bit presumptuous. It was also tempting to pimp it up Godowsky-style. To play a piece like this, which has so little in it, is hard to do well, whereas the Godowsky arrangement of the Albéniz Tango has voluptuousness built into it, so it sounds pretty good even if you don’t play it well. To make the original, much thinner piece sound like something, you have to work much harder, and so it is with this. I figured that you can fill it out yourself, if you want.The reason for choosing this unassuming piece is because the holy grail for the ballet pianist searching for new repertoire is the “tango”-that-isn’t-a-tango, the kind that teachers request for battements fondus, and which also work well for slow tendus, because they have a perpetual feeling of in-and-out in their rhythm. This piece is in the right area, I think. If nothing else, it’s a lesson in less-is-more. The reason improvised tangos often don’t sound effective is because there’s a temptation to throw every harmonic trick going at them, or fill them out with masses of chords, forgetting that the real thing tends to just toggle between dominant and tonic a lot of the time – the interest is in the rhythm, and the way it’s played.
